Cookies, briefly.

Quick read: essential cookies keep you signed in and process payments. Analytics is opt-in via the banner — off until you say yes. Marketing cookies aren’t running.

1. What cookies are

Tiny text files your browser stores so sites can remember you between visits.

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device. They let a site remember things between page loads or visits — like that you’re signed in, or that you’ve already dismissed a banner. Under the EU ePrivacy Directive, essential cookies don’t need consent. Anything non-essential — analytics, marketing — does, and we only set those after you opt in.

2. Cookies we use

Three categories: Essential (always on), Analytics (opt-in), Marketing (currently unused).

Always on

Essential

Required for SkillFlirt to function. Specifically: Clerk’s__sessionHttpOnly auth cookie, Stripe’s checkout cookies (only set on the checkout page during a purchase), and your consent record atskillflirt:cookie-consentin localStorage. These can’t be disabled — without them you can’t sign in or pay. Under ePrivacy these are exempt from consent.

Opt-in

Analytics

Not currently active. PostHog analytics will load only after you opt in via the cookie banner — until then no analytics scripts run and no analytics cookies are set. When enabled it’s aggregated usage data only: no cross-site tracking, no profile, no ad networks.

Not active

Marketing

Reserved for if/when we run ads or set up retargeting. We are not running these right now and no marketing cookies are being set. If this ever changes, we’ll update this page and re-prompt for your consent.

3. How to opt out

Use the cookie banner on first visit, or update preferences anytime in Settings → Privacy.

On your first visit you’ll see a cookie banner where you can pick Accept all, Essential only, or Customize. You can change your mind any time by going to Settings → Privacy → Cookie preferences. You can also delete the skillflirt:cookie-consent entry from your browser’s local storage to be re-prompted on the next page load.

4. Third parties

Clerk (auth) and Stripe (checkout). Both essential. Nothing else.

Two: Clerk sets the session cookie that keeps you signed in, and Stripe sets fraud-prevention cookies on the checkout page when you make a purchase. Both are essential. No Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no Hotjar. If we add anything new, this list gets updated and you’ll be re-prompted for consent.

5. Your cookie banner choice is what we follow

We respect your banner choice. Until you opt in to analytics, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics scripts load.

Browser Do Not Track (DNT) was never widely adopted as a standard, and we don’t read it. What we do honor is your choice in the cookie banner: until you opt in to analytics, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics scripts load on your session. Essential cookies (auth, payment) run regardless because the product can’t function without them.
